Performing the Restore

Once the job completes, click OK to close the Completion dialog and then click the “Restore” toolbar button in the toolbar of the Wizard window. This will display the Restore panel on the Advanced View window.

Restore Panel

Select the tape set from the listed sets (a Disk-based archive will appear under the folder “Disk Archives”). Selecting the archive will display the contents in a hierarchical list format in the upper right list. Locate the file or folder that you wish to restore and either double-click or drag and drop the selection to the lower right list.

When restoring data on an OS X system it is important to understand that even though BRU processes applications as folders, we recommend that you only restore complete top-level .app folders (many OS X Applications are really folders designed to operate as a single application) or the resulting restore could leave an application in a non-functioning state.

Next, Click the “Restore to an alternate location” checkbox and select a location from your system. We are using a mounted RAID volume in this instance.

With the alternate restore location selected, click the “Start Restore” button to restore the selected file or folder to the alternate location selected.

Required Tapes Dialog

ArGest Backup will prompt you with the tape(s) required along with any barcode provided if using a Tape. Once you have the tape ready, click the “Continue Restore” button. The tape will be repositioned to the starting point of the selected data and the restore will begin.

Restore Completed

If you’ve followed these steps, you have just performed a complete Backup, Verify, and Restore of a copy of the Messages application with ArGest Backup.
